Friday Food Finds – Alpendough Protein Cookie Review

Are you a cookie lover? Then have I got a cookie review for you this week. Alpendough, a company known for their ready to bake vegan and gluten free cookie doughs recently launched a new line of plant based protein cookies. Considering my love for all things cookie related, I was excited to try this line of plant based cookies.

Alpendough Protein Cookies are available in 3 flavors: Chocolate Chip, Double Chocolate Cherry, and Lemon Poppy.

Alpendough Cookies are:

  • Gluten Free
  • Vegan
  • NON – GMO
  • Plant Based(Made with Pumpkin Seed Protein Powder

The nutrition varies by flavor but averages between 290-360 calories, 18-19g protein, 27-29g carbohydrates, 12-18g fat and 4-6g fiber. Each package is one serving which means you can eat the whole darn cookie!

Let’s get to tasting!

Chocolate Chip

Since, this was my first experience trying a pumpkin seed protein based product, I wasn’t quite sure what to expect. To my surprise, pumpkin seed powder has a very mild flavor in comparison to pea and hemp which can often come across earthy in taste. Loaded with plenty of chocolate chips, the texture is similar to that of a soft batch cookie. These aren’t excessively sweet either considering each cookie contains around 16-21g of sugar per serving. The Chocolate Chip cookie was good but not great. I felt like this flavor was somewhat muted for my liking which was odd considering this smelled pretty amazing straight out of the wrapper.

Ingredients: Pumpkin seed protein powder, organic evaporated cane juice, semi-sweet chocolate chips, organic coconut oil, organic coconut milk, tapioca flour, less than 2% of organic vanilla extract, whole grain gluten-free oat flour, molasses, xanthan gum, baking soda, sea salt, monkfruit extract.

Double Chocolate Cherry

Forget the box of chocolates this Valentine’s Day, please send me a dozen of the Double Chocolate Cherry cookies. Cherry and chocolate just happens to be one of my favorite flavor combinations ever! So thick and dense, this has the consistency of a rich dark chocolate brownie. It’s almost what you would call a cookie-brownie hybrid. Chocolate makes up the good majority of the flavor but the addition of the dried cherries made for a perfectly balanced cookie. Hands down my favorite of all three flavors.

Ingredients: Pumpkin seed protein powder, organic evaporated cane juice, organic coconut milk, organic coconut oil, unsweetened dried cherries, semi-sweet chocolate chips, Dutch process cocoa powder, less than 2% of tapioca flour, almond extract, organic vanilla extract, baking soda, xanthan gum, monkfruit extract, whole grain gluten-free oat flour

Lemon Poppy

If you are a lemon lover, this cookie will make you do a happy dance! Slightly reminiscent of those classic bakery style muffins you would find at Dunkin Donuts, Lemon Poppy is soft, tender, and bursting with lemon flavor in every bite. The lemon flavor was very natural and not overpowering. The poppy seeds help to balance out the lemony flavor and add a subtle yet nutty crunch component to the cookie.

Ingredients: Pumpkin seed protein powder, organic evaporated cane juice, organic coconut milk, organic coconut oil, whole grain gluten free oat flour, lemon juice, tapioca flour, lemon extract, 2% or less of organic vanilla extract, poppy seeds, monkfruit extract, baking soda, xanthan gum, sea salt, almond extract.

  1. I’ve heard of Alpendough, but haven’t tried any products. I’m glad to read that the Double Chocolate Cherry and Lemon Poppy flavors are worthy! And I do love pumpkin seed protein. Happy Friday, dear Wendy! XO

    • Happy Friday Liz! I may have a slight obsession with that Double Chocolate Cherry flavor! This was my first time trying a product that uses the pumpkin seed protein. So happy that it was a positive one! Enjoy your weekend friend! XO

    • Hi Lori! Alpendough is definitely more difficult for us to find here on the East coast. Luckily we can easily order things online! The Lemon Poppy is definitely worthy of trying! Enjoy your weekend!

  2. What great flavors! I think you need to make an ice cream sandwich with your cherry chip ice cream that you have made! This is the first time I’ve heard of protein made from pumpkin seeds.

    • Hi Jo! I think your onto something with that ice cream sandwich idea! It would actually pair beautifully with the cherry chocolate chip one on my website!
