Happy Friday Friends! I’m a huge fan of all things coconut; coconut water, milk, flour and oil. I have also been on quite the yogurt kick lately! I was very excited for the opportunity to review CoYo Coconut Milk Yogurt for this week’s Friday Food Finds.
The wonderful team over at CoYo was generous enough to send me 4 flavors to try- Natural, Mixed Berry, Raw Chocolate and Mango.
I loved their story! From their website. “CO YO, developed on the Sunshine Coast of Australia by Sandra and Henry Gosling in 2010, started out as a dream… Henry, who grew up in Fiji, wanted to awaken the rest of the world to the health benefits of the coonut which is called the “tree of Life” for its legendary, powerful health benefits.
As a young boy, it Henry’s job to climb the local trees for the coconuts his mother wanted to use in her cooking. He had to then grate and squeeze the flesh of the coconut to extract the milk which was used in family meals.
Fast forward a few decades and after successfully doing many fresh-food related ventures, Sandra and Henry began in earnest to develop a coconut based yogurt that was totally dairy free and completely vegan with a minimal amount of ingredients. After a considerable amount of trial and error, their diligence resulted in CO YO – a yogurt alternative which is truly “Heaven in a Mouthful”.
CoYo Coconut Milk Yogurt is like no other yogurt on the market. The taste is very unique and the texture is quite creamy. CoYo is dairy free, vegan, soy free, gluten free and has no added sugar. As far as the nutritional stats, these yogurts are full fat. There is increasing evidence that the fats in coconut products are “good” fats not bad so consuming more coconut based products could actually bring you some pretty awesome health benefits. Coconut is a true superfood and one of the healthiest things you can consume.
I tried the Raw Chocolate first since I love anything chocolate. I wanted to show just how creamy the texture was of this decadent yogurt. If you are expecting sweet, you will be a bit disappointed. The flavor is more bitter due to the rawness of the chocolate. To suit my taste, I added a bit of liquid stevia and topped it off with some fresh chopped cherries.
I wanted to have a little fun with the Mixed Berry flavor so I decided to make frozen yogurt! The higher fat content made me think about trying to make a frozen yogurt and I was delighted with the results. I scooped the entire container into a freezer safe bowl and froze it for about 40 minutes. The sweetness from the berries really compliments the creaminess of the yogurt. I enjoyed my creamy soft serve in a waffle sugar cone.
The Mango flavor was on the mild side. The flavor of the fruit is there but not overpowering and it feels indulgent. I thought it would be fun to add some fresh mango and shredded coconut to my yogurt bowl. The Mango flavor would also be amazing topped with some crunchy granola!
I decided to use the Natural flavor to make a healthy chip dip. I added 2 tablespoons of Simply Organic Fajita Seasoning to the entire container for a dip that had a sweet and savory kick to it! I paired the dip with some The Good Bean Jalepeno Cheddar Chips!
Did I enjoy CoYo? Yes, it was definitely an indulgent treat for me. It’s thick and creamy texture makes it easy to eat alone but is also versatile enough to add to a variety of recipes.
