Friday Food Finds – Enlightened Snacks and Alterna Sweets

Happy Friday friends! In this week’s Friday Food Finds, I will be sharing some fun and new to me food finds that I’m very excited about!

ENLIGHTENED ORANGE CREAM BARSI’m excited to share with you a new company I came across a few weeks ago- Enlightened from Beyond Better Foods. You might have seen this brand before! They are well known for their low calorie, high protein popsicles and ice cream sandwiches. The snacks that are better in a “less bad for you” way, but actually are better. The ENLIGHTENED Ice Cream makes a sensible treat –each flavor:Fudge, Coffee, Orange Cream,  and Chocolate Peanut Butter Swirl just to name a few have under 100 calories and just 3 – 5g sugar and 7 – 8g protein. Their bars are gluten free, high fiber, low fat, low sugar and no artificial sweeteners.

The Good-For-You Crisp Roasted Broad Beans

ENLIGHTENED MESQUITE BBQJust recently the company introduced a new snack item that I’m really excited about – ENLIGHTENED Crisps. If you haven’t tried broad beans for snacking yet, you’re missing out.  In case you wondering, what is a broad bean? Broad beans are a true superfood. A member of the legume family, they are known around the world by many names, including fava, faba, bell, and field beans. They are sweeter and richer in flavor than many other beans and are an excellent, low-calorie source of protein, fiber, and zinc. They’re also rich in folate and B vitamins. crunchy, savory, and highly nutritious. Each bag has just 100 calories, 3g fiber and 7g protein – plus they are gluten and soy free. All 5 flavors are incredible too! – Garlic Onion, Sea Salt, Sriracha, Wasabi, Mesquite BBQ. Wasabi and Mesquite BBQ flavors are my two top picks for Friday Food Finds!

Here is a shot of my Wasabi encrusted Ahi Tuna that I had for lunch last week. Simply crush your wasabi broad beans until the texture is fine and coat your Ahi. This seared up beautifully as well as nice and crispy!

Enlightened products are available online and at most grocery stores.  You can also follow them on Facebook, Instagram and Twitter.

Alterna Sweets

Alterna SweetsI was recently given the opportunity to try out the stevia sweetened BBQ sauce and ketchup by Alterna Sweets.

The Sweet & Smokey BBQ sauce was delicious!  I used this on my salmon burger at lunch last week. I like the fact that it has the same texture as regular BBQ sauce but with only 6g carbs per 2 TBS serving.  The ingredients list- all words you can recognize and pronounce: Tomato sauce (tomatoes, salt, dehydrated onion, dehydrated garlic, spices, natural flavors) Ketchup (Tomato sauce, tomato paste, vinegar, salt, onion powder, all spice, cloves, cinnamon, garlic powder) white vinegar, black strap molasses, Erythritol, Butter (cream{milk},salt), liquid smoke, Sea Salt, paprika, pepper, Reb A (stevia extract), garlic powder, onion powder, cayenne pepper, cinnamon, chili powder.

Alterna Ketchup LunchThe  Alterna Sweets Bold and Tangy Ketchup also has an amazing ingredient list: Tomato Paste, Water, White Vinegar, Erythritol, Sea Salt, Onion Powder, Paprika, Reb A (Stevia Extract), Garlic Powder, Cinnamon, Cloves, Allspice. I am a huge fan of ketchup but not all of the sugar. The ketchup is 1 g carbs and 5 calories per tablespoon. The texture was identical to regular ketchup, which is pretty important for someone who LOVES ketchup! I am a dipper, I used this with my ranch green beans fries and purple sweet potatoes.

Processed with Moldiv

I recently shared this post on Instagram of my salmon burger using the Sweet and Smoky Original BBQ sauce. I love that this sauce is stevia sweetened and no preservatives! It had the perfect blend of smoky and sweet with a bit of a spicy kick from the cayenne pepper and chili powder!

I highly recommend both the BBQ sauce ketchup and will definitely continue to use them in my own home. You can purchase Alterna Sweets on their website and follow them on Facebook, Instagram and Twitter.

What are some of your recent food finds that your excited about? Please share, I would love to hear from you!
