Hello and Happy Friday! In this week’s Friday Food Finds, I will be sharing some fun and new to me food finds that I’m very excited about!
Mikey’s Muffins- Cinnamon Raisin
Mikey’s Muffins are dairy-free, gluten-free, grain-free, peanut-free, soy-free, and vegetarian. The muffins are light, tender and perfect for everything from toast to burgers. They are not airy like a typical English Muffins – more like a slightly eggy slice of wheat bread. Mikey’s Muffins do take a little longer to toast than traditional grain bread. The ingredient list is pretty simple: Eggs, almond flour, purified water, coconut flour, raisins, cinnamon, baking soda and kosher salt. One other thing to note, they are also smaller than your average english muffin. At 98 calories per muffin, this would be a perfect afternoon snack topped with some peanut butter and sliced apples or bananas. Click here to learn more about Mikey’s Muffins.
Strong Kind Bars- Thai Sweet Chili
Kind introduced a product line called Strong & Kind that’s aimed at their male bar consumer. The new flavors mix sweet and savory—Honey Smoked BBQ, Honey Mustard, Roasted Jalapeno, Hickory Smoked, and Thai Sweet Chili. I tried the Thai Sweet Chili bar. When I opened this bar it was loaded with huge almonds, pumpkin seeds and also pea crisps (which is where the protein comes from). One thing that kind of surprised me about this bar was that I expected it to have a strong chili smell. The chili smell was pretty mild and this bar really smelled more nutty than anything. It tastes like a snack you might find in an Asian grocery store. I will definitely pick up a few of the other flavors – especially the Honey Smoked BBQ. Kind bars can be found in most local grocery chains and health food stores. To learn more about Kind’s product line, click here.
Ancient Harvest Quinoa Pasta
I do not follow a gluten free diet but was very curious to try this pasta. My hubby has been craving a healthier version of a tuna noodle casserole so I decided to test out the pasta in this recipe(Recipe will be featured in an future post!). The pasta boiled up quickly and perfectly in 6-8 minutes. It has a nutty taste and the texture of whole wheat pasta. I also felt the pasta kept me fuller for a longer period of time than some other grains. This pasta will become a regular pantry staple for me and is my top pick for this week’s Friday Food Finds! I’ve found this pasta in the organic aisle at several local grocery stores. However, it can also be purchased online here.
Wild Harvest Black Bean Chipotle Veggie Burgers
Wild Harvest is not a brand I’ve bought before, but I figured you can’t go wrong with black bean burgers most of the time and these are vegan, for all of my vegan readers out there! The patties are spicy, with a hearty texture of beans and corn mixed in with peppers and a few other veggies. The chipotle adds a lot of flavor with just a bit of heat. They cook up rather quickly on the stovetop in about 5-6 minutes; however be careful not to overcook or they can become dry. I topped mine with some Wholly Guacamole, cheese and lots of spicy mustard. Perfect for pairing with some sweet potato fries or a side salad.
Boom Chicka Pop- Lemon Drop
I found these in the Easter aisle for $1.99 at Target! I love anything Lemon and knew I had to pick these up. There is also a Frosted Sugar Cookie flavor too that looked quite tempting that I did not try. Lemon Drop gives you a burst of lemon and a hint of sweet. This kettle corn is gluten free, contains zero trans-fat, is whole grain and contains no high fructose corn syrup. This flavor is limited and won’t be around for long. Thankfully for me, this flavor comes in a much smaller bag. Buyer beware, highly addictive if you love lemon!
