Friday Food Finds – G2G Bars Review

Happy Friday friends! Well it looks like we made it through the week after Thanksgiving. It was a rough start to the week with lots of work projects but I’m back into my groove again.  I’m definitely looking forward to a relaxing weekend of baking, nut butter making and a bit of holiday shopping!

Now let’s jump in to my favorite post of the week, “Friday Food Finds.”

This week I’m sharing my review for G2G bars.  The company reached out to me about trying their line of protein bars. These were new to me, so I was quite excited at the opportunity.

In case you are wondering what G2G stands for- Are you good to go? Kind of catchy isn’t it!  The bars come in four different flavors including Almond Chocolate Chip, Peanut Butter Fruit Nut, Almond Fruit Nut, and Peanut Butter Chocolate Chip. The bars were developed by founder Casey Child. Casey is an ex-pro baseball player and a lifelong health and fitness enthusiast.

A little about the bars’ benefits (as quoted from the G2G Website):

G2G bars are all completely natural, 99.9% lactose-free, and use many organic ingredients. The bars do not contain any refined sugar; instead they are sweetened with honey, brown rice syrup, and coconut crystals. They contain flaxseed and coconut oil, and are flavored with cinnamon and vanilla. The bars are high in protein, which comes from whey isolate, peanut & almond butters, (freshly ground) and oats. In addition to fantastic taste and satisfaction, the ingredients in the G2G bars possess countless health benefits.

  • Whey Protein: rapid-digesting protein that feeds muscle tissue and helps in muscle recovery
  • Whole Oats: lowers cholesterol, reduces risk of heart disease, stabilizes blood sugar
  • Flaxseed: promotes bone health, protects against heart disease, cancer and diabetes
  • Coconut Oil: supports tissue healing, protects against osteoporosis, reduces inflammation
  • Honey: anti-bacterial, anti-viral, anti-fungal
  • Cinnamon: anti-microbial, helps control blood sugar, improves colon health

The bars do not have any preservatives, so they must be kept in the fridge or freezer for maximum taste and freshness! Quick tip: Since the bars harden in the refrigerator, I always get mine out about an hour or so before I plan to eat it!

pb fruit and nut nutrition imageAll of the bars come in at 298 calories, 18 g of protein, 25 g of carbs, 14 g of fat and 4 g of fiber. They are organic, gluten free, low sodium, no trans fats, no preservatives, naturally flavored and contain omega 3’s. They are a little higher in sugar but that comes from the honey and brown rice syrup. I love that the bars contain ingredients you can recognize and read!

G2G PB CHOCOLATE CHIP BARPeanut Butter Chocolate Chip: The first ingredient is freshly ground peanut butter. Each bite was so creamy & smooth. There are small chunks of peanuts and chocolate chips throughout the bar.  Just look at those chunks! Consistency wise, the bars break apart very easy. However, I do highly recommend letting them sit out a for a bit before eating.

G2G PEANUT BUTTER FRUIT NUT 2Peanut Butter Fruit Nut: This flavor is very similar to the Peanut Butter Chocolate Chip just without the chocolate. It reminded me slightly of a peanut butter & jelly sandwich. Small pieces of peanuts throughout the bar. I am a big fan of peanut butter anything, so by default the peanut butter fruit nut was a favorite. Another plus, the bar filled me up for hours between my meals.

Almond Fruit Nut:

I fell in love with the almond butter bars at first bite. The best way to describe this bar is to think of eating raw cookie dough!  This bar has a subtle almond & vanilla flavor with a hint of fruit.  I was very happy with the amount of almond pieces throughout the bar.  No strange, chemical-flavored weirdness when you bite into them, just the flavors of fruit and nuts.

G2G ALMOND CHOCOLATE CHIPAlmond Chocolate Chip: I absolutely love almonds and you could taste all of that rich almondy goodness with some chocolate mixed in there.  I love the fact that they are not overly sweet as most protein bars can be.  One of the first ingredients is freshly ground almond butter. If you love almond butter, you will be in heaven! This flavor is my top pick for Friday Food Finds!

Final thoughts:

G2G are perfect for grab and go. The nutritional stats for these bars are also pretty impressive and are the perfect ratio for both pre and post workout treats! If you’re looking for a whole food bar with a protein boost that isn’t hard, overly chewy, and full of chemicals, the G2G bar is exactly what you want.
