Living a gluten-free lifestyle should never limit your creativity in the kitchen! Although I do not follow a gluten free diet, several of my family members do. Because breadcrumbs are a key ingredient in so many of our favorite recipes, I decided to search for some new options. Introducing Nut Crumbs, a first of it’s kind bread crumb alternative made with just nuts and seasonings!
The Nut Crumbs Story:
Susan Laughlin is the creator and owner of Nut Crumbs. An avid foodie and wannabe chef, she’s always dreamt of being in the culinary industry. Susan came up with the idea for Nut Crumbs a few years ago after trying to lose weight following the birth of her first son. She took the paleo path and had been cooking with them for years before deciding to turn it into a business in early 2017.
What are Nut Crumbs?
Nut Crumbs are a gluten free, sugar free, grain free, vegan, Paleo, and Keto friendly alternative to using traditional bread crumbs in recipes. Nut Crumbs are made using real food ingredients like pistachios, cashews, almonds, pecans and spices. Committed to using only the best ingredients, their nuts are sourced from Premium Nut, a family-owned company in Chula Vista, while the spices come from Mount Hope Spices out of Cottonwood, Arizona.
Nut Crumbs is offered in 4 regular and 2 seasonal flavors:
- Coconut Curry
- Coffee Cacao (seasonal)
- Pumpkin Spice(seasonal)
Here are a few of my favorite ways to use Nut Crumbs!
Solely made from nuts and spices, the Original flavor is a perfect mix of premium pistachios, cashews, and almonds blended with salt & pepper. These are certainly not your ordinary bread crumbs, most of which are bland. These have a rich and nutty flavor that will leave your taste buds dancing. I also love their thicker texture which make them a perfect binder for meatloaf and for coating chicken or fish.
Conveniently, my package from Nut Crumbs arrived the same day I planned to make a batch of my favorite pesto macaroni and cheese. I decided to swap out my usual panko and use the crumbs for the topping. The hubby and I both agreed it was awesome and Nut Crumbs definitely took the dish over the top.
Upon opening the bag, the Italian crumbs have a delicious garlicky herb aroma which carries over into the flavor. The flavor is way more powerful and satisfying than your typical Italian bread crumb. It’s 110% better! With the perfect mix of premium pecans, cashews, and almonds blended with Italian spices, it only seemed appropriate to make some meatballs, (chicken parmigiana meatballs to be exact- recipe coming soon!).
I decided to pan fry my meatballs before finishing them off in the oven. Unlike regular bread crumbs, Nut Crumbs tend to brown much faster, so it’s preferable to not cook on a very high flame. My meatballs came out so moist and tender. I’m in love!
Pro Tip: Sprinkle some extra Nut Crumbs on top of your pasta! It makes a great dairy-free parmesan cheese alternative. You’re welcome!
Overall: I highly recommend trying Nut Crumbs. I’ve tried many different gluten free bread crumbs and these by far are some of the BEST on the market. The options to use these products are endless whether you add them to your favorite casserole, pasta dish, scrambled eggs or pizza…they are sure to be a HIT with your family and your taste buds!
