Friday Food Finds – PROBAR FUEL Review

Happy Friday friends! Have you heard of PROBAR? The company was kind enough to send me their PROBAR FUEL line in all five flavors. Today, I’m sharing my full review with you!

PROBAR is a company out of Salt Lake City, UT who make a variety of bars ranging from energy bars to meal replacements. All of their products are organic, non-GMO project verified and gluten free. While most energy bars contain artificial ingredients, the PROBAR FUEL bars are made from whole food ingredients. Date paste is the primary ingredient in all five flavors. Their compact size makes them easier to keep in your pocket, purse or glove box for when you’re on the run.

In terms of nutrition, since these are marketed as a fuel/energy bar, they do only contain 3 grams of protein. If you plan on using these as a pre or post workout option, I would recommend pairing it with a some additional protein like greek yogurt or even a protein shake. The bars contain around 20-22 grams of sugar. There are no added sugars(the sugar content comes from the dried fruits) with the exception of the Coconut Dream which contains a bit of cane sugar with the addition of the chocolate.

Let’s get started! So how does the ProBar Fuel line stack up?

Up first is Carrot Cake!

Carrot cake is actually one of my favorite desserts so when I saw this flavor, I knew I had to try it right away. On the whole, the bars have a soft, chewy, yet solid texture to them with bits and pieces of nuts throughout. Take a look at those chunks of walnuts and flakes of carrot! Even though date paste is a primary ingredient, the carrot cake flavor did shine through! A few suggestions to enhance the carrot cake flavor even more would be to add a few bits of dried pineapple and a bit of cream cheese flavoring or slight drizzle on top! Overall, I enjoyed this flavor!

Apple Pie

Upon opening the package, I was instantly transported to the era of homemade baked apple pies, with the added benefit of natural ingredients! The tartness from the apple pairs really well with the dates, almonds, walnuts, cashews and cinnamon. Delicious!

Blueberry Pie

Soft and sweetly rich, this tastes and smells like a bakery blueberry muffin! Based on the texture and my love for all things blueberry, I was pretty excited thinking that I may have found my favorite flavor.

Coconut Dream

Move over blueberry pie, I just found my new favorite! I love coconut especially when it’s mixed with chocolate. Coconut Dream has chunks of walnuts and almonds throughout with no shortage of coconut flakes and chocolate chips! If you love the flavor of coconut but also like the texture of coconut flakes than I’m sure you’re going to love this one. Hands down, this is my favorite of the bunch!

Cherry Pie

The dried cherries mixed with both the dates and cranberries created a subtle sweet undertone with a slightly tart taste. The cashew pieces were plentiful and provided a nice crunch to the bar that would simulate the crust of a pie. Not sure why dried cranberries were added to this one. All in all, this was a little too tart for my liking even though I’m a huge cherry fan.

Overall, ​I love the fact that ProBar uses on only a handful of ingredients to keep the bars as close to their natural state as possible. This means more nutrients and fewer preservatives. On the flip side, I felt the size of the bars were quite small. For some people, it may be just enough to get over the hump between meals, but I found myself wanting to reach for another.

  1. Ooh, these bars sound great (I’m partial to the Blueberry Pie one). And you’re right, they messed up the Cherry Pie bar with the cranberries (hence it being too tart) – too bad 🙁 I fuel up for my workouts with my favorite Wake Up Waffles protein waffles (vanilla cookie flavor). I have a steady supply delivered to my house – been obsessed since my very first purchase/review (and they’ve improved the flavor since then!) HAPPY FRIDAY, DEAR WENDY!! Catch up soon XO

    • Hi Liz! Blueberry Pie is really good and I think you would enjoy it! I still haven’t tried Wake Up Waffles yet but it’s on my list! I’m very interested especially since you mentioned they improved the flavor! xo
