Hello and Happy Friday! This week’s Friday Food Finds are some of my recent protein finds!
Chao is the new Vegan cheese from Field Roast. I found this simply by accident at a local health food store. They received the product in error. It was actually meant to go to Whole Foods. Available in three flavors: Creamy Original, Coconut Herb, and Tomato Cayenne. 7 oz. package contain 10 slices each. I tried the Coconut Herb. The coconut herb is an interesting mix- coconut flavor infused with herbs and black pepper. It melted beautifully in my grilled cheese sandwich. This would also be delicious in an omelet. This is my top pick for this week’s Friday Food Finds!
Quest Protein Powder Multi-Purpose Mix
I was quite excited when Quest announced their new protein powders were coming out. It’s not often that you find a high-quality whey protein that you can cook with (one that can take heat without curdling or getting dried out). These come in 5 flavors: vanilla, chocolate, strawberry, peanut butter, and unflavored (multi purpose mix). When they say unflavored, this one truly is. For my first recipe, I decided to make a mug cake. If you have ever baked with protein powder, you know it can make your recipe very dry. This mix did not disappoint. My mug cake came out moist and delicious. I posted this recipe over on Instagram– I would love for you to check it out!
Nuts ‘n More Almond Infused Whey Protein Powder
I absolutely love Nuts ‘n More’s almond and peanut butters so I could not imagine that I would not enjoy their Almond Infused Whey Protein. There are two flavors- Chocolate Crème and Vanilla. I decided to go with the Vanilla. Each serving is packed with 17 almonds and 23 grams of protein! I made a batch of mini muffins this past weekend and plan to do some more experimenting with this great find! I must say this protein bakes extremely well! The muffin recipe will be featured in an upcoming blog. My friend Sarah over at Ingredients of a Fit Chick posted an amazing Chocolate Almond Butter cookie recipe last week using the infused whey protein powder. Tru Table Protein Dressing & Dip -Orange Blossom Honey & Balsamic
This dressing is awesome! I purchased mine online at Vitacost. Some select Wegman’s and Whole Foods also carry them. There are 4 different flavors to choose from: Orange Blossom Honey & Balsamic, Key Lime Caesar with Asiago, Orange Citrus and Black Chia Seed and Asian Sweet Chili and Tamari. Tru Table products are made from natural ingredients and are enriched with 9-10 grams of whey protein isolate. All of the Tru Table products are gluten-free and three of the four are vegetarian. The Orange Blossom Honey & Balsamic is a sweet, tangy mixture of orange blossom honey, vinegars, fresh basil, garlic and spices. I had mine over a grilled chicken spinach salad for lunch. These dressings are perfect if you’re looking to add some additional protein punch to you meal!
The Square Bar comes in three different flavors: Cocoa Crunch, Cocoa Coconut and Cocoa Almond. I found mine at my local Vitamin Shoppe. Each Square Bar is filled with 10-12 grams of protein, covered with real dark chocolate and sweetened with coconut nectar. Nutrition-wise:USDA Certified Organic, Non-GMO Verified, and Certified Gluten-Free. Square Bars are also free of dairy and soy, and are considered Vegan. My favorite of the three was the Cocoa Coconut. Coconut and chocolate is the perfect pairing! Shredded coconut and extra virgin coconut oil make for a creamy coconut flavor. This bar is very satisfying, as well as filling, and I definitely recommend it. Head over to Square Bar to purchase some of these amazing bars.
