Hello and Happy Friday! In this week’s Friday Food Finds, I will be sharing some random food finds that I’m very excited about!
I was so excited when I found these on my grocery trip to Wegman’s! Is it kale or is it brussels sprouts? The inspiration behind Kalettes came from a desire to create a kale type vegetable which was versatile, easy to prepare and looked great. Crossing kale with brussels sprouts was a natural fit since they are both from the Brassica Oleracea species which also includes cabbage, cauliflower and broccoli. I simply sauteed mine in some coconut oil for about 10 minutes and seasoned them with some pink Himalayan sea salt. I paired it with a piece of grilled salmon. They are a bit pricey at $3.99 for a small bag. Click here for some great recipe ideas for your Kalettes. This is my favorite pick for Friday Food Finds!
Aidells Chipotle Pineapple Chicken Breast
I came across this when looking to pickup my Applegate Turkey Bacon at Target. I had purchased Aidells chicken apple sausage before but never their lunchmeat. Trust me, I’m not a huge fan of buying lunch meat but this flavor intrigued me. I made a grilled panini sandwich with this. It’s not really spicy at all. It had a nice smoky flavor to it. I could only taste a subtle sweetness of pineapple but was hoping for more. The ingredient list is not too bad with the exception of the addition of Carrageenan. No Gii Protein Bars
The team at No Gii was nice enough to send me a few samples of their bars to review. No Gii is dedicated to helping you achieve a gluten-free lifestyle, especially if you’re suffering from celiac disease or gluten intolerance. While I’m not committed to the gluten-free diet that doesn’t mean these aren’t a good source of protein and other important nutrients. I was sent 3 flavors to try: Chocolate Mint, Peanut Butter and Chocolate and Chocolate Peanut Butter Caramel Crisp. NoGii High Protein bars contain between 17-20 grams of high quality protein. I went with the Chocolate Mint first. This protein bar tastes similar to one of my favorites–the Thin Mints Girl Scout Cookie. So while it is not a true replacement of that old sweet snack, it is a nice gluten free option. The Chocolate Peanut Butter Caramel Crisp is one of their Super Protein bars! This truly is a meal replacement and packs 30 grams of protein! It was easy to eat too as most bars are very hard to break apart. It was not overly sweet either. I could easily taste all three flavors- chocolate, peanut butter and caramel in every bite. The Peanut Butter and Chocolate is made of a crispy rice base with a chocolate bottom and chocolate drizzled over the top. The peanut butter flavor is present without being overly strong and the milk chocolate blends nicely with it. Click here to check out No Gii’s products.
Organic Black Bean Spaghetti
The noodles are marketed as “Organic Black Bean Spaghetti Shape” but the shape is actually closer to a cross between linguini and capellini. Each 2 oz serving is 25 grams of protein and packed with 12 grams of fiber. To be honest, I was not expecting to be impressed, but it turns out that this pasta substitute is actually good. Love the creamy black color, al dente texture, mild sweet bean-y flavor, and earthy aroma. I served this to my hubby with some trepidation. However topping it with a garlic shrimp sauce helped quite a bit! Explore Asian Authentic Cuisine Organic Black Bean Spaghetti Shape is sold at most markets. I was able to find it at a local mennonite market for $3.99 a bag. Click here to learn more about this pasta!
Kodiak Cakes Oatmeal Unleashed
If you have been following my Instagram account for some time, you know I’m a fan of Kodiak Cakes Flapjack and Waffle mixes. When I saw the oatmeal at my local grocery store for 10 for $10.00, I knew I had to try it! I bought the Wild Blueberry flavor. It also comes in Peach Vanilla Almond and Green Apple Spice.I travel quite often for work so this is a great on -the -go option. You simply add water and microwave for 30 seconds! How easy is that.
