Friday Food Finds – Rise Bar Review

Protein bars are a quick, on-the-go option but they definitely aren’t all created equal. With so many bars on the market to choose from, it can be hard to know which to pick. Fortunately with Rise Bar, there are plenty of flavors to appeal to anyone’s preferences making it even easier to stay on track with your health. I’ve been a fan of Rise Bar for quite some time now so it only seemed appropriate to finally share a review for a few of their flavors on the blog.

The Rise Bar Story:

In 2010, Pete Spenuzza began the development of a high-quality protein bar that would help people achieve their goals, by the nature of its simple ingredients and outstanding nutrition. He called it Rise. Simply put, he believes everyone has the ability to rise above and achieve their dreams, one step at a time.

The first Rise Bar was very simple in nature. It consisted of almonds, honey and whey. That’s right — only three ingredients. But it worked. It was a success and consumers loved the idea of a simple, easy to understand protein bar. One that focused on real ingredients, while omitting anything frivolous or artificial.

Today, Rise has never strayed from the learning’s of that very first bar – minimal ingredients, real food and always made simple. Every Rise Bar is made in small batches in the commercial kitchen of their Irvine CA headquarters. They take an artisanal approach to their manufacturing process and slow roast their almonds, cashews, and other nuts on-site for maximum flavor. Pete and the Rise Bar team still taste test random batches every single day to ensure the ingredients and product standards never waver.

Why Choose Rise Bar:

Rise Bars are non-GMO and free from any gluten, soy, peanuts, artificial sweeteners, sugar alcohols and preservatives. Each bar contains only 3-5 real food ingredients, has 15-20 grams of protein, around 25 grams of carbohydrates and 15 grams of healthy fats.

Rise Bar offers 5 whey-isolate based flavors:

  • Almond Honey
  • Snickerdoodle
  • Chocolatey Almond
  • Mint Chip
  • Cacao Banana

And 3 plant based ones:

  • Chocolatey Coconut
  • Lemon Cashew
  • Sunflower Cinnamon

So how do they taste?

Almond Honey

The Almond Honey bar has just three ingredients: almonds, honey, and whey protein isolate- how can you beat that? Honey is the predominant flavor while the almond flavor takes a subtle backseat. This bar tastes a lot like a softer less chewy version of the Bit-O-Honey candy(talk about nostalgia) with the exception that it is packed with 20 grams of healthy protein. It’s absolutely delicious and no surprise that this one of their best selling flavors.

Ingredients: Almonds, honey, whey protein isolate.

Snickerdoodle is a classic cookie flavor that has been a long time favorite of mine, so how could I possibly not enjoy this bar. The texture is soft, chewy and mimics all of the warm and wonderful flavors that are synonymous with a snickerdoodle cookie. From an ingredient standpoint, this bar is basically the honey almond bar with the addition of cinnamon and vanilla extract. Hands down, this is definitely one of my favorite flavors!

Ingredients: Almonds, honey, whey protein isolate, cinnamon, and vanilla extract.

Chocolatey Coconut

The Chocolatey Coconut was love at first bite. For all of the chocolate and coconut lovers, this bar will blow your taste buds away. It’s chewy and chocolatey with a pop of toasty coconut flavor. The bar is subtlety sweet with no aftertaste or grittiness you often experience from pea protein. Talk about getting your sweet tooth fix, this bar was satisfying and very filling for an afternoon snack.

Ingredients: Organic cashews, pea protein isolate, organic coconut nectar, carob powder and organic shredded coconut.

Lemon Cashew

Lemon is such a fresh and timeless flavor which works amazingly in protein bars. I love lemon anything and was looking forward to trying this flavor. Upon opening the wrapper, you’re immediately hit with a subtle and pleasant lemony aroma. The lemon flavor itself is light, not overpowering and was quite refreshing. With plenty of chopped cashews scattered throughout, this bar was slightly reminiscent of a lemon shortbread cookie. Absolutely delicious and has been added to my rotation of bars.

Ingredients: Organic cashews, organic coconut nectar, pea protein, and organic lemon extract.

That’s how #WeRiseTogether!

The Rise Bar protein bars have become a regular purchase for me. I love the combination of few ingredients + healthy + good taste! If you like protein bars for their convenience and flavor, do yourself a favor and grab a few bars or even a box of Rise Bar.
