Friday Food Finds- RXBar Bar Review

Happy Friday friends! I recently came across the RXBar while doing my shopping at Wegman’s. I have been very impressed at how the store has really stepped up their protein bar game. The minimalist package design of the RXBar was actually what caught my eye. I love that the different flavors all have different theme colors, while the brand language stays 100% consistent so that you know it’s the same product and brand. Plus, who wouldn’t love a product whose tagline is “We let our ingredients do the talking, and No B.S. is listed as one of the ingredients!” I picked up 5 of the 8 flavors they offered.

About RxBar, in their own words:

“We believe that food should be simple and delicious without compromising nutrition. We believe that food should be consumed as nature intended. We set out to create a whole food protein bar we felt good about eating and that made us feel great after we ate it. And we’re sticking to it.”

I love that RxBars have less than 8 ingredients each. Their core ingredients are dried figs, dates, nuts, and egg whites, and depending on the flavor, they also add blueberries, cacao, coconut, peanuts, apples, or spices. The egg whites and raw almonds provide 12 grams of protein in each bar! They’re also naturally gluten-free, dairy-free, soy-free, non-GMO, paleo-friendly, whole-30 friendly, and have no added sugar or artificial ingredients.

Coffee Chocolate

RXBAR CHOCOLATE SEA SALTYou can’t beat these two flavors together!  There was a nice subtle and pleasant coffee taste, not bitter at all. This bar literally tasted like chocolate covered espresso beans. Not too sweet. Just the right amount of crunch.

Ingredients: Dates, Egg Whites, Almonds, Cashews, Cacao, Coffee, Sea Salt, Natural Coffee Flavor

Coconut Chocolate

RxBar Coconut Chocolate

When it comes to flavor, it was not too sweet and had just the right amount of coconut flavor and crunch from the nuts and cocoa nibs. The chocolate flavor was subtle and not overpowering. The occasional crunch from a bit of cacao nib or a piece of almond adds some awesome texture. This bar was satisfying from start to the very last bite! Definitely a new favorite!

Ingredients: Dates, Egg Whites, Almonds, Cashews, Cacao, Coconut, Sea Salt, Natural Coconut Flavor

Peanut Butter

RX BAR PEANUT BUTTERVery straight up peanut butter taste to this bar. It tasted like peanut butter cookie dough. This bar also seemed to have the softest texture of all of them.

Ingredients: Dates, Figs, Egg Whites, Peanuts, Peanut Oil, Sea Salt

Pumpkin Spice

RXBAR PUMPKINFinally a pumpkin flavored bar that isn’t full of fake ingredients. This one reminds me of a gingerbread cookie. Nice and soft texture with the perfect amount of crunch. This bar was also not too sweet. The bar tastes like a crustless portable pumpkin pie.

Ingredients: Dates, Egg Whites, Almonds, Cashews, Pumpkin, Ginger, Nutmeg, Cinnamon, Cloves, All Spice

Chocolate Sea Salt

RXBAR CHOCOLATE SEA SALTThis flavor has a very noticeable salt flavor at first that’s followed by the deep chocolate flavor that left a lingering after taste. There isn’t too much crunch in this bar. If you’re a chocolate lover, you will love this bar.

Ingredients: Dates, Egg Whites, Almonds, Cashews, Cacao, Sea Salt, Natural Chocolate Flavor

Overall, I thought these bars were a good nutritional value. I loved the ingredient list of RxBars and found the flavors to be pleasant and not too sweet. They’re a terrific option for travel or post-workout. The only concern I have with RXBars is the amount of sugar. 15 grams is a little on the high side, but you have to take in consideration that it all comes from dates which are slightly lower glycemic index.

  1. I’ve seen those bars at my local grocery store – I definitely read the ingredients lists and nutritional facts for all bars (and all foods, period). The peanut butter flavor sounds the best to me! 🙂 Thank you for another great product review, Wendy! Happy Friday xo
