Friday Food Finds – Wink Frozen Desserts Review

Happy Friday friends! Love dessert, have allergies or live a vegan life? Meet Wink Frozen Desserts! My local Vitamin Shoppe recently started to carry this brand. Curiousity got the best of me and I decided to try two of the flavors- Cake Batter and Cocoa Dough.

The packaging and name are both adorable, so I had high hopes. What excited me a bit more, though, is that Wink actually doesn’t contain any of the top 8 allergens.

Cake Batter

I started with the Cake Batter flavor. In my mind, Cake Batter should have some sprinkles. Don’t expect ice cream or you will be very disappointed. Wink= frozen dessert. The texture resembles sorbet or sherbet far more than actual ice cream. It’s a little icy and gritty rather than creamy. If you let it thaw for a few moments, it scoops pretty well.

The ice cream is sweetened with monk fruit and stevia instead of sugar which is awesome but you need something to help carry the flavors. As odd as this may sound, Cake Batter actually tasted like bubble gum to me. It was quite bland to be honest. Wink should think about adding some vegan sprinkles to jazz it up a bit. Topping it with an Oh Yeah One Birthday Cake bar made the flavor a bit more palatable.

Cocoa Dough

The cocoa dough was very icy and tasted watered down. I searched my entire pint and there were zero chunks of dough to be found. It doesn’t taste like cocoa at all. It had more of a mocha/coffee like flavor. This one had a slight aftertaste from the pea protein and monk fruit. I added some Cocoa Dusted Enlightened Broad Bean Crisp for a bit of a crunch. I will most likely add the rest of this container to my hubby’s morning smoothie.

Wink actually has a pretty wide variety of flavors, with something that everyone is bound to enjoy.

Flavors include:

  • Choco-Mint
  • Cinnamon Bun
  • Iced Latte
  • Vanilla Bean
  • Peanut Butter & Jelly
  • Black Cherry Cacao Nib
  • Strawberry Cheesecake
  • Caramel Candy Apple

If you can consume dairy, I would recommend another brand (unless you really want some of their unique flavors). Overall, I probably would not buy Wink products again.

  1. You’re WAAAAY too generous, comparing Wink to sorbet or sherbet. I’ll leave it at that 😉 Happy Friday, dear Wendy! xo

    • Happy Friday Liz! This was a tough review to write. I simply could not think of any other way to compare it in a “politically correct” way. Thankfully, I purchased both pints on sale at Vitamin Shoppe. I have since used both in the hubby’s smoothie. He couldn’t tell the difference but he’s not a foodie like us .:) Have a great weekend dear friend- xoxo
