Friday Food Finds – Hippeas Chickpea Puffs Review

Chickpeas are one of the hottest trends in the food industry lately! Chickpea pasta, chickpea flour and now chickpea snacks. After seeing these new to me snacks in several Starbucks and hearing my sister rave about how delicious and addictive they were, I decided to “Give Peas A Chance” and try Hippeas Chickpea Puffs.

HIPPEAS, PRODUCT REVIEW, MOORE WAYS TO WELLNESS

So what are Hippeas?

Hippeas are little puffed crisps, made from chickpea flour, rice flour, and a handful of natural herbs and flavorings. With 4 grams of protein and 3 grams fiber per 1 oz serving, these light and crunchy chickpea puffs are an absolutely delicious and healthier way to snack during long road trips or a quick snack on the go. They are made with all organic, high-quality ingredients and are non-GMO, vegan, dairy-free, gluten-free and contain no no nuts or soy making these puffs a nice choice for those with common food allergies and intolerances.

Hippeas come in 5 fun flavors:

Far Out Fajita – A fiery stash of chili, paprika and cumin puffs.
Pepper Power – A fist pump of pepper and a sprinkle of sea salt.
Bohemian Barbecue – Sweet tomato, onion and garlic with a smoky barbecue bite.
Vegan White Cheddar – Righteously cheese puffs… just without the cheese.
Sriracha Sunshine – Tangy-sweet spicy jalapeño and paprika puffs.

But what really sets this brand apart on the shelf is their bright yellow bags with a chickpea on front, it’s kind of hard to miss. It’s evident that their bright color palette and catchy flavor names were developed to reflect the bright pop colors of the hippy era!

Bohemian Barbecue

Who’d have thought that chickpea puffs would be so delicious? They have the consistency of cheetos or cheese puffs, but without the glow in the dark orange fingers. Each bite has a lightly sweet but savory barbecue flavor with a wonderful smoky vibe that’s beyond addictive. Barbecue has a nice smoky flavor with a touch of spiciness.

Vegan White Cheddar

These are a dream come true — a dairy-free version of the Cheese Doodles I used to love so long ago, except with a wonderful white cheddar flavor. I love the great crunch and the great cheesy flavor. The white cheddar flavor is salty and tangy. The “cheese” is not overpowering but is definitely present and yummy. Warning: these are addictive and you may finish the bag in one sitting.

Far Out Fajita

The only thing stopping me from thinking I was eating actual fajitas was the texture (and that’s in no way a bad thing). These are spicy and smoky, salty, a little sweet, and has a nice kick all at the same time. Everything you love about fajitas. I thought it was a dead-on match with the flavor you would expect and hope for too. I would definitely recommend this flavor.

Sriracha

I get excited about Sriracha anything! Surprisingly flavorful, the taste is sweet and tangy with an extra kick of heat. I loved the balance of sweet and spicy. I found myself wanting to go back for more of these.

Pepper Power

Opening the pack revealed that these certainly had a nice peppery aroma. I was hesitant at first with this one because I’m not a huge pepper fan. They were crunchy, light with a good dose of peppery flavoring. Pepper doesn’t always work with crisp style snacks, but here it does perfectly.  I actually found myself finishing the bag in no time, don’t be afraid to try this flavor out.

HIPPEAS, Pepper Power, Review

Overall, if you’re looking for a healthier snacking option that has actual nutritional benefits, you can’t go wrong with these! My favorite flavors were the Bohemian Barbecue, Vegan White Cheddar and Far Out Fajita.

I also love a company that gives back. Hippeas also has a partnership with Farm Africa and for every pack sold, they give back by donating to the charity, which supports farmers in Eastern Africa by providing support, training in effective farming methods and links to markets, we help to build more profitable farming businesses so that whole communities can lift themselves out of poverty.

Hippeas can be found at select grocery stores, Starbucks or purchased through their online store and Amazon.
