Top 10 Favorite Food Finds of 2017

2017 has been an awesome year for me on the blogging front. I learned so much yet still have so much to improve. There’s always something technical to figure out or something more I could be doing better, but one thing I know is that I really love showing up here every week with fun and creative stuff to write about. Thanks for coming back to read what I have to say, and thank you for the words of encouragement both online and in person. With that being said, I thought it would be fun to recap 2017 with some of my Favorite Food Finds.

In no particular order,  here we go!

1.  COnutButter

Run by husband and wife team Alex and Thomas Pericak, COnutButter comes in 3 delicious flavors; Pure Sea Salt Almond Butter, Maple Cinnamon Almond Butter and Salted Honey Peanut. With coconut oil as the base, none of their nut butters contain more than 6 ingredients. Their nut butters are the perfect consistency for baking or just enjoying by the spoonful!

2. KNOW Better Foods

This one’s not a surprise since I feel like 50% of my Instagram feed is Know Foods Chocolate Chip Waffles. My obsession with this company started in April after trying their donuts, bread and muffins. Since then, their product line has grown exponentially to include pasta, cookies, marshmallows and now their own chocolate chips! The waffles, cookies, wraps and donuts will continue to be a staple in my pantry into the new year.

3.  My Favorite Indulgence

Using only real food ingredients, My Favorite Indulgence granolas are vegan, signficantly lower in sugar, salt and carbs, preservative-free and just downright delicious. This crunchy goodness is so yummy on yogurt, as a topping for pancakes or waffles or straight from the bag. My favorites are the Chocolate Mocha and Pumpkin Spiced! Indulge in a healthy way and add this granola to your healthy eating mix for 2018!

4.  Enlightened Ice Cream

If you are searching for a way to satisfy your craving for ice cream, I definitely recommend trying one of Enlightened’s 22 ice cream flavors. I’m certainly no connoisseur of ice cream, but this is one brand I continue to come back to time and time again. I’m still working on my local grocery store(come on Publix) to add more of their flavors!

5.  Simple Mills Baking Mixes

When I’m short on time and need to rely on the convenience of a baking mix, Simple Mills is my go to. All of their mix’s are paleo-friendly, grain-free, dairy-free, soy-free and low carb. I not only love the simplicity of the ingredient list but also enjoy being able to put a healthy dessert on the table in less than 25 minutes. I’ve recently added their pancake/waffle mix along with the pizza crust mix to my must haves for the pantry.

6.  Binnie’s Coconut Butter

Created by mother of two Lindsay Binnie, Binnie’s Coconut Butters come in 6 delicious flavors; Dark Chocolate & Sea Salt(still obsessed with this one!), Very Vanilla, Simply Cinnamon, Pumpkin Spice, Coffee Macaroon and Maple. All of their coconut butters are gluten free, dairy free, soy free, vegan, organic and non-GMO. With a clean ingredient list, I feel good about recommending Binnie’s Coconut Butters! Whichever flavor you choose, you simply cannot go wrong.

7.  Abby’s Better Nut Butter

Abby’s Better Nut Butter was started by self described foodie Abby Kircher. For her, it all started with some nuts and a food processor. Offered in 5 different flavors: Date Pecan, Coconut Cashew, Strawberry Cashew, Honey Almond and Coffee Almond, none of her nut butters contain more than 5 ingredients or any artificial sweeteners. I still need to try her Coconut Cashew flavor that I see so many people raving about on Instagram. Definitely on my list to try for 2018!

8.  Blindspot Nut Butters

Blind Spot Nutbutters is an artisan nut butter maker based in York, PA. I’ve always had a warm spot in my heart for this company since they were local to me. I absolutely loved this year’s holiday cookie theme. Keep an eye out for the Valentine’s Day flavors to be released next week; Chocolate Heartbreak and Oatmeal Chocolate Chip Cookie. Is your mouth watering yet? Well, it should be!

9.  FlavaNaturals

If you’re looking for a healthy dark chocolate, you simply cannot go wrong with FlavaNaturals. Each of their bars contain 5 times the flavanol super nutrients of a typical chocolate bar. Available in 6 unique flavors; Crystallized Ginger + Saigon Cinnamon, Blueberry + Matcha, Espresso Ground Coffee, Pure Cocoa Nibs, and Roasted Almond Himalayan Pink Salt; my favorite is the Blueberry + Matcha. Since they are relatively small in size(1.3 ounces), they can be enjoyed just about anywhere and perfect as a healthy snack or dessert option.

10.  Molly’s Bakeovers

Bakeovers are essentially “makeovers” of the traditional baked good(cookies) to make them healthier, tastier and free of the most common allergens. Molly’s Bakeovers are free from GMO, egg, dairy, peanut, soy and gluten. They come in these cute resealable packages that keep them fresh for days. Brownie Crisp is my favorite with Chocolate Chip not too far behind! I recently had an opportunity to try the Apple Pie flavor and they are too die for. Molly also launched her new website which I highly recommend checking out!

A few honorable mentions include Legendary FoodsSpoonably SweetChoc Zero and True Made Foods(I have talked about all four companies on Instagram but not formally reviewed yet on the blog), SmartCake and Georgia Grinders.

  1. Thanks for the info Wendy. My grandkids will be here next week and I think I will order some Molly’’s Bakeover cookies for them. I have already stocked up on the Know waffles, which they love.

    • That’s awesome Karen! Please let me know if you try them! Enjoy the time with your grandkids!

  2. I have SO enjoyed reading your blog, Wendy! So many great posts throughout 2017, I can’t wait to see what you do in 2018! I love that you featured your favorite products and reminded me of a few to try out but dang, I’m so sad that coconut is a highly reactive food for me. I think even more products will have coconut as a base and I’ll have to pass on them. I did not know that KNOW had their own chocolate chips, very cool!

    • Hi Jo! It’s unfortunate about the coconut. Hopefully it’s just a temporary intolerance for you! I’m happy to help you search for products that may work better with your new elimination diet, just let me know!

  3. Your fabulous blog has introduced me to SO many awesome brands, thanks to your HONEST product reviews (it sickens me how many phonies are out there, who don’t even consume the products, review stuff and are always like OMFG, LIKE, IT’S AMAZING, hahaha). Can’t wait to see what recipes, product reviews, and other content you share on your blog in 2018. Keep up the awesome work and inspiration, always XO And my favorite food finds this year are too many that aren’t relevant probably.

    • Thank you Liz! I’m looking forward to sharing more companies this year as I came across some pretty awesome ones at the end of last year! I would love for you to share some of your favorites,as I’m sure they are very relevant! xo
